CASE STUDY: Baltimore City Health Department

SUMMARY

A small cap food and beverage company that was rapidly growing was having regular down times due to issues with it’s supply chain management module. This was effecting delivery timelines for customers, and a risk to the continued growth of the company

BACKGROUND

A client that manufactures food and benverages for customers was having an issue with it’s supply chain management system. The system’s database was locking up due to an increase in database transactions. The result was a delay in picking, packing and shipping orders for customers. The client was growing by 10 – 15% annually and downtimes were causing increasing revenue losses and a risk for continued growth. The client was using Microsoft NAV as the ERP solution and a Microsoft server and database environment.

SOLUTION

First, we engaged a team of experts on the ERP solution, including one Microsfoft MVP. We then completed a total diagnostic review of all infrastsructure, servers, databases and networking. This was to ensure there were no issues anywhere else but the database. One the issue was found to be a combination of database functionality and design, tools were put in place to maximize efficiencies for queries and database operations. We then completed an upgrade of the ERP system, and implemented a new custom software solution to fail over pick pack and shipping operations to a new facility with the click of a button within NAV if a downtime event occured. Finally, we completed the due dilligence on identifying a new ERP system that had a supply chain module that was designed for both pick and pack functionality, pallet level supply chain operations and capable of handling a number of transactions that were projected as two years ahead of the company’s current transaction total. This allowed the company
